Alioth

G'day fellow speculative fiction absorbers. Welcome to the AntipodeanSF Radio Show Alioth, brightest of the stars that grace Ursa Major, the big bear in the firmament. Perhaps we should not break the magic by saying that Aliot is derived from Alyat, the fat tail of a sheep.

Where's the magic in that? Ah well, having said that, speculative fiction writers find it everywhere they look, including in fat sheep tails.

Alnair

Hold it right there. This is the AntiSF Radio Show "Alnair", and we ought to just stop moving for a moment. Slow down. Take off some mass. Don't focus on the end of the universe. Relax. Hi, I'm Nuke, your host and editor, dropping some stories by you for your edification. Stories are telling, they're subversive, and they're sometimes grating and intrusive.

And this is where you'll hear them, sometimes narrated by the beings that created them.

Alnitak

What if you could hear a range of speculative fiction in the one place from science fiction to the edges of what may be termed speculative, the hyper-real, slipstream, experimental?

Guess what? You are here — in the land of the magic lamp, about to illuminate a science class taught by a man who wears armour, while ants muddy their tunnels with the blood of Schrodinger's cat, causing its wave function to collapse, and its heart to slow, all watched over by coherent lemmings and buddhist monks.

G'day fellow travellers and welcome to Radio Show Alnitak, the first of four shows that cover the fiction from the pages of AntipodeanSF Issue 195. I'm your host and editor, and general alien's body, Nuke. Thanks for joining me for a feast of short fiction, in another minor modification of format that has less music and more stories, but only for the podcast. If you're hearing the show on the radio, just a little more music for you, just because.

But what about what's in this show? Well, we'll consort with streetlight streetlife, go on a singular quest for family, and flashback to the end of an Empire from the an earlier issue, and perhaps flash into a review or two. Shortly.

Meanwhile, Alnitak is a one of those three stars that make up Orion's belt, 730 odd light years distant. It is actually a triple star system in its own right, which just goes to reinforce the notion that if you keep looking into things with more and more detail, you'll reveal more parts.
