G'day fellow speculative fiction absorbers. Welcome to the AntipodeanSF Radio Show Alioth, brightest of the stars that grace Ursa Major, the big bear in the firmament. Perhaps we should not break the magic by saying that Aliot is derived from Alyat, the fat tail of a sheep.

Where's the magic in that? Ah well, having said that, speculative fiction writers find it everywhere they look, including in fat sheep tails.
