Welcome, welcome. Step right up and take a peek at this wonderful ball of hydrogen. Phecda be thy name. Phecda be thy nature. It’s familiar to most observers in the northern hemisphere as the lower-left star forming the bowl of the Big Dipper, together with Dubhe (upper-right), Merak (lower-right) and Megrez (upper-left). It is a main sequence star not unlike Sol, although somewhat hotter, brighter and larger.

Phecda, by the way, is also this show. Hi, I’m Nuke, your host and editor, and today we’re going to hear two stories from the pages of AntipodeanSF, a magazine that has its roots in the stars of the southern cross, or is perhaps under magellanic clouds.

What is it that gives us that elan vital, and if you had only limited words to tell the history of time, how would you go about it? Nick Clark and Harris Tobias try to answer those questions.
