AntipodeanSF
AntipodeanSF podcast/radio show is devoted to the presentation of flash speculative fiction stories (science fiction, fantasy, and horror). AntiSF is where speculative fiction belongs -- downside-up!
AntipodeanSF Radio Show 185

G'day flash speculative fiction lovers cosmos-wide, I'm Nuke your host and editor for this show. You happen to have tuned in to the AntipodeanSF radio show 185, featuring all of the fiction in audio taken from the now hacked and since disabled online version of AntipodeanSF with that same number.

Hacked? Once was not a dirty word, but now seems it is, especially when it takes down the AntiSF website.  As a matter of fact, it was past time for an upgrade to the latest version Joomla, the content management system that has driven the site since the mid naughties. The new site will run on the latest version, and will be upgraded along the way, and will now responsively adapt the screen layout and sizing according to the device that is accessing.

In the meantime, the AntiSF Radio show is late in the wake of the upgrade, and the sheer weight of the season. Fair warning, then, that the next issue of AntiSF may well be delayed for a month or so while the site is rebuilt.

Nevertheless, it's Summer solstice here in the Antipodes, Winter Solstice in the podes, and doesn't this bode well for stories?

It does.

So stay tune to this show for seven speculative tales in the flash department, one fifty wordier, and a special extra from mystery writer, Zeb Carter -- which is now to be a feature of every issue for which I can get them -- a longer story of more than a thousand words.

Black hat hacking be damned, it's on with the show, folks.

The AntipodeanSF Radio Show 184

G'day fellow flash speculative fiction readers and listeners. Welcome. Thanks for joining me for another show. I'm Nuke, your host and editor, and my sage advice, if I may be so bold as to give it, is to open your ears. This is the AntiSF Radio Show 184, featuring the stories from Issue number 184 of the online magazine and e-reader version, which can be found at: <www.antisf.com.au>

Do I hear a question? From the depths of space? Perhaps the rumbling of thunder from the clouds of Jupiter? Well, it's okay to listen to that, but don't forget to keep listening to this show -- because, to paraphrase another well known escape artist's podcast, blatantly, it's storytime.

Coming up in this show, then, you will hear 9, that's right, three squared pieces of fiction from various Antipodean authors including Kathryn Yuen, Ed Errington, DW Walker, Leonie Rogers, Mark Webb and Wes Parish. In the anti-antipodean scribe department, we welcome some longer fiction from Sean Johnston, a shorty Post-Apolocalyptic nasty from Leslie Blake, and a bracket of fine poetry by the talented Anna Sykora.

All of this fine prose is swaddled in some equally exquisite incidental music from Grgoire Lourme, who we've heard from before on the AntiSF Radio show. The feature track from Grgoire today is "Robot Supremacy Action", kinda fitting for a speculative fiction show if you ask me.

Any other questions?

The AntipodeanSF Radio Show 181

Of all the things to tell me now. And I'm expected to listen. Well, okay, perhaps considering that laser rifle in your hands I will, and perhaps I'll also invest in welcoming all of you troops to the AntiSF Radio Show, 181. I'm Nuke, your host and editor, and in this edition you'll hear all of the stories from AntipodeanSF Issue 181, in which we'll take in a universe of narrative from waste, from Russia with Love, from deep inside coal sacks, from electronic wannabes, and perhaps even from our primate ancestor kin. We'll also have some selections of music along the way, short, sweet, and to the point, flash music, just like flash fiction.

The AntiSF Radio Show 180

Howdy folks and others, I'm Nuke your host and editor. One of the best things about having edited AntipodeanSF for such a long time is seeing authors travel on to bigger and better things. In this show, two regular contributors (especially in times past) have collaborated to create a special story exclusively for publication at AntiSF — and they have done this just "for the love" of AntiSF.

Thanks Jason and Martin. Each of you has amassed an impressive list of publication credits, and all of us really appreciate you coming back home to make such a fine contribution to the ongoing project that is AntiSF.

Art, Ink, isn't flash fiction, it's a short story. And take heed. There's more than a grain of truth within. Yes, well, for me at least, suspension of disbelief is what it's all about. Let's see if that's true for you too.

AntiSF Radio Show 179

G'day speculative fictions lovers upside and downside. Thanks for joining me for another session of mayhem and speculation. This is the AntiSF Radio Show for issue 179 of the online magazine, featuring all of the stories from that issue, plus more, including interviews and soundbites from this year's Aurealis Awards Ceremony and after-party in Sydney in May this year, which happens to be 2013. A huge shootout to all of the writers, fans, editors and speculative nuts that Beth and I met in Sydney. You know who you are, and you may well hear yourself on this show. Speaking of this show, what you are certain to hear is an interview with Cat Sparks, fiction editor of Cosmos magazine, and Daniel O'Malley, writer of "The Rook" which took out the Aurealis Award for best science fiction novel.

The AntiSF Radio Show 178

G'day speculative flash fiction lovers. Welcome to the AntiSF radio show 178, comprising an audio collection of all of the stories that appeared in issue 178 of AntipodeanSF magazine online. AntipodeanSF is all about speculative fiction downside up, and is just the place where flash fiction belongs. I'm Nuke, your host and editor. I'm not long back from the 2013 Aurealis Awards, and future issues will feature some of the audio interviews that I made on that night. A shout out to all of you that went along, all of you that I bumped into, and a special hello to those of you that I didn't bump into, and indeed those that I bumped into but did not recognise. How dare any of you change the colour of your hair. Weird lot these speculative fiction writers.

The AntiSF Radio Show 177

G'day lovers of speculative fiction from both antipodes. Welcome and thanks for joining me, Nuke, your host and editor for the AntiSF Radio Show for Issue 177, comprising five fine examples of speculative flash fiction, and two fifty word micro-stories. On this show you'll learn what it's like in the slow lane, discover the talent hiding in simple hirsuteness, work out just why you're afraid of mirrors, step lightly into the end of the world, and be illuminated by the eyes of a child. Not to mention be prodded about the benefits of mutation, and slide into the realities of a steampunk world.

Oh yes, don't forget folks. We will still be around for issue 200, and AntiSF will publish a bunch of fiction before then, so get those minds yammering, get the fingers flying, and send me those stories.

The AntiSF Radio Show 176

G'day lovers of Speculative Flash Fiction. This is the AntiSF Radio Show, right where it belongs, in audio - all of the best stories, many of them narrated by the authors who created them, all shaken up and stirred with fresh and unusual music that you won't hear on any other radio station in the universe.
But speaking of issues, wasn't there something missing from issue 175 of AntipodeanSF?
Did you Grok it?
Perhaps not. There weren't any stories missing.
Nevertheless, I felt it. The issue had a gaping black hole. Perhaps not a good way to start the new year.
Ever since Issue 121 of AntipodeanSF we've had a fantastic regular book review, every month, barring accidents, from our regular reviewer — Jan Napier. The only thing that ever held Jan back from submitting her monthly "Going Critical" column was when she broke both of her wrists. Ouch.
From Issue 122 onwards "Going Critical" quickly grew into an integral feature of this publication. Jan proved in that first review of "Dancing With Werewolves" that she could deliver on the name of the column that she chose, and continued to do it issue after issue. She lavished praise where it was due, and handed out brickbats when they were required, and she did it with an eloquence and style that often exceeded the merit of the works that she was reading.
Jan, unfortunately, decided late last year that she needed to focus on other things in her life. AntiSF, after all, is a relentless monthly magazine with an ogre of an editor that demands things get up online, on-time.
Let me take this opportunity, in this forum, to thank Jan for her excellent contribution towards the ongoing success of AntipodeanSF. We were all lucky to have the opportunity to read Jan's words. And if we're even luckier, we'll read Jan's words in other publications in future.
