AntipodeanSF (general)
AntipodeanSF podcast/radio show is devoted to the presentation of flash speculative fiction stories (science fiction, fantasy, and horror). AntiSF is where speculative fiction belongs -- downside-up!
Spica

In dog we trust, at least when it comes to being friendly. And in AntipodeanSF we trust to deliver the best in flash speculative fiction from the Antipodes, and occasionally from the other side of the world too. Welcome folks to the Radio Show Spica, a double star, rather closer than some, a mere 250 years away as light travels from it to us at 300,000 kilometres per second. Astronomically and historically, Spica is thought to be the very star that allowed Hipparchus to discover the precession of the Equinoxes. And if you want to know more about that, I can recommend the excellent "Astronomy Cast" Podcast. You'll learn a lot. In the now, however, it's time for story. In this episode three pieces of flash speculation, highlighting the dangers of re-animation, the best uses for waste, and the demise of a type 2 civilisation.

CapellaB

Ah yes, greetings and salutations, it's time to go to that stars again, nothing to do with small female goats. Hi, I'm Nuke, host and editor of the AntipodeanSF Radio Show. It's CapellaB. You're listening to it right now. And your reward is the same as mine. The joy of story. While you ponder that, here's the show, as promised, in which you'll hear stuff, including a train story, a train band with SF song, a tale of constant surveillance, and an interview with Aurealis Award winners and near winners.

Strap it on and prepare yourself for departure.

Acrux

G'day and welcome to an interlude edition of the AntipodeanSF Radio Show for a month with five weeks. This one's Acrux, which is a name with some special significance here at AntiSF. It's the brightest star in the Southern Cross, and I see and admire it almost every night. Listen in for more...

And as for the fairy floss, that's the bucket Kathryn gave me at the Macksville Show recently. It's huge. Thanks Kathryn. That'll keep me podcasting!

The AntipodeanSF Radio Show "Achernar"

Who's the hottest star amongst the ten brightest in the firmament? Hi, I'm Nuke, host and editor, and you're listening with me to the AntipodeanSF Radio Show "Achernar" which also answers that opening question. Hottest and bluest of them all is that most oblate of stars in Eridanus, meandering constellation, which is perhaps something I could be accused of in this show. Oblateness and meandering-ness.

Reeling it in with fictional bait, let me hook you. In "Achernar" you'll hear as a feature part one of a rather longer than normal for AntipodeanSF time-travel story. This is a change for us here at AntiSF, but it will continue. I'm encouraging any author with previous publication credit at AntiSF to contribute longer stories for the site, now a more viable thing to do online with the technological advances in displays, and the popularity of e-book readers.

Didn't you know that AntiSF is available in e-book format? Well, it is, and I must thank the ever vigilant and helpful Mark Webb for his work in creating those issues for us, which are now available in both epub and mobi formats. And while I'm meandering yet again, you should also think about downloading Dimension 6, a new and free e-magazine edited by Keith Stevenson of Coeur De Lion Publishing. I really enjoyed the first issue, which included stories by Richard Harland, Charlotte Nash, and Jason Nahrung. I particularly liked Jason's story "The Preservation Society". This is a vampire story that has a beautiful bite to it. Dimension 6 can be downloaded from the AntipodeanSF website, antisf.com.au, by choosing the "E-Reader - Downloads" link in the main menu.

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to interview Jason at the Aurealis Awards, but I did catch up with many others, and the remainder of the audio from that event is coming to the AntipodeanSF Radio show in the near future. As for Jason, perhaps I'll interview him soon, since I do have permission from him and many other AntiSF authors to "Flashback" to their stories from earlier issues of this very magazine.

Ah, digression. It's a way of life. Enough. Also in this show you'll, if you're lucky, you'll get away with a single nightmare. And now...

AntipodeanSF Radio Show "Procyon"

Salutations and greetings, folks. Welcome to the other side of the world, and to the AntipodeanSF radio show Procyon, where flash speculative fiction belongs. I’m Nuke, your host and editor, and I’m here to present you with the last show featuring the stories from Issue 189 along with a fantastic flashback from another first-time publication credit writer, Jason Fischer. AntiSF has a number of such credits over the years. We are the place to watch for future writers. In the meantime, creep forward, narrow your eyes, and prepare for the onslaught. In this show you’ll hear about living on an impossible methane world, get to realise what sociopaths are really capable of, and reach a percentage on climate, with an ultimate result. Listen with me now...

The AntipodeanSF Radio Show "Capella"

You have been saved. Spared to listen to this, The AntiSF Radio Show Capella. I’m Nuke, your host and editor, and I’m here to share some storytime with you from a distance of 42 light years from Sol, in orbit around a tight binary system, both of them G type stars. So perch yourself on the edge of your seat, take a deep breath, steel your nerves, and prepare thyself. The time is nigh for us to learn all about what Post Apocalyptic stories should be saying, then to get to the bottom of gravity in fifty, only to be bamboozled about our descent in orbit around Jupiter, and finally to flashback to some pop-music horror from the inimitable Angela Slatter.

The AntipodeanSF Radio Show "Vega"

Salutations and hugs, cos hugs are good. I’m Nuke, your host and editor, and this is the AntipodeanSF Radio Show “Vega”. Not Vegan, although we can always hope for visitation rights.

Stick your ears with me for the next half an hour or so and you’ll hear four fabulous pieces of flash fiction, ranging from dark and brooding horror, through bubbly speculation, darting into a technological what if, and finishing, although not necessarily landing, on slight spiral manipulation of a conspiracy theory.

The AntipodeanSF Radio Show "Arcturus"

Greetings fellow SF lover. Thanks for listening with me to another selection of speculative fiction from the pages of AntipodeanSF online in the AntiSF Radio Show “Arcturus”. I’m Nuke, your host and editor, and I hope that the words and music give you pause to consider the wonders of the universe.

In this show you’ll hear about Europa Calling, some Martian Claims about Phobos, and something twisted about the concept of mind over matter.

AntipodeanSF Radio Show "Toliman"

Folks, its true. Black holes suck, yet they also dissipate over time, according to Stephen Hawking. I always knew it. They do have hair. I’m sure there’s a story in there, as there is more than one of in this show, the AntipodeanSF Radio Show Toliman. Welcome aliens all, I’m your host and editor, Nuke, and I’m here to present three stories and a review. In the last show I promised a party at the end of the world, and now I’m here to deliver, well perhaps not me, but David Kernot. Also coming up is a fifty worder from Ed Errington where we’ll discover that we don’t necessarily hear about all heroic acts, a flashback from the early days of AntiSF from a regular contributor over the years, Brendan Carson. More cruelty, is all I can say. There’s also a review from Jean Gordon of a science fiction book by Adam Roberts, “By Light Alone”. Wouldn’t that go down as a good party trick?

That’s a thought. Let’s party.

AntipodeanSF Radio Show "Canopus"

Starstuff. It’s what you’re made of. You were once a star, and you may well be again. Welcome to the AntipodeanSF Radio Show, designated 188-2 Canopus. Ah, Canopus, F Type Supergiant Star, second brightest star in the firmament, around 300 light years distant. I yearn for you. And I can’t help but see you. There you are, somewhere in the constellation of Carina, the Keel, which happens to be the same constellation within which is the setting of one of our stories. Doesn’t mean it’s really anywhere nearby, though. Eta Carinae is more than just a few thousand light years further away than Canopus.

Speaking of yearning, though, you need do that no more, for here is your fix of flash fiction. Right where it belongs, on the radio and in your ears.

Even drop bears would know that in this week’s show we’ll hear a duopoly of fiction in which Rich Larson lets us meet the last in kind at Eta Carinae, while Tony Owens inscribes another dastardly plot with our favourite fictional character here at 2NVR, Klinko the Klown. Fiction aside, there is music, and some snippets of conversations and writerly silliness from the Aurealis Awards in Sydney in 2013. Don’t forget, the 2014 Awards are coming up with a rush, held in Canberra on Saturday April 5. Find out more at . Rock along and hear Fildenstar.

It’s a star of show, this one, really, isn’t it?
