AntipodeanSF
AntipodeanSF podcast/radio show is devoted to the presentation of flash speculative fiction stories (science fiction, fantasy, and horror). AntiSF is where speculative fiction belongs -- downside-up!
Mirach

Hello aliens and anti-aliens all. Welcome. This string of binary data is designed to be rendered as pressure waves in a planetary atmosphere of mostly nitrogen. Are you listening? Hi, I’m Nuke, your host and editor for another AntipodeanSF Radio Show. This is Mirach, second brightest star in the constellation of Andromeda, hot on the binary heels of last week’s star Alpheratz. In a couple of hundred years, out near Mirach, this show could be heard if you tune to 105.9 Mhz and use wideband FM to demodulate the signal.

In this show you’ll learn all about fading memories and all about remembering again, and it’s down to two authors who contributed new material to Issue 200 — Tom Grayhorse and Kathryrn Flaherty.

Alpheratz

Please don’t squint through the viewports. That’s Alpha Andromedae, also known in the dark ages as Alpheratz, the navel of the mare. Welcome. We’re at 97 light years distance, and you can see from this spectroscopic interferometry readout that this is a binary system, period 97 days. What’s the buzz with 97 — well let me tell you. And who am I? Well, let me tell you that too. I’m Nuke, host and editor for this, The AntipodeanSF Radio Show broadcast number 97. Keep listening through that device of yours and we’ll journey into story, three of them, and all of them Flashbacks to first-time stories in AntipodeanSF. Each of these stories is currently online too, for your perusal. But don’t go there now. Stay here and find the positive in vampirism, the galaxy-spanning consequences of a shipwreck, and the link between the Irish and cacti.

Menkent

Greetings and salutations fellow sentients. This is the AntipodeanSF Radio Show Menkent, also known as Theta Centauri, in which we will hear a new contribution from a writer who contributed to Issue 10 of the magazine when it seems that your editor — that’s me, I’m Nuke — and I was then too — had just completed an overhaul of the website so that it would load more quickly, and be cross platform compatible. Did I mention the word Lynx? Wh remembers that? A text based web browser? I was concerned about that? Of course. Text was what it’s all about. The story inside. And it still is today. Not the wrapping. Go past that, at speed. Anything that emerges, emerges from the words.

In this very show, other than diving through one way barriers, be prepared to experience sacred thought, and to really feel heartless.

Nunki

Good, good, good. Day, night, afternoon. Welcome to the AntipdoeanSF Radio Show Nunki.

Half a billion seconds ago it started. It was mid-1997 CE. A geek of a voracious, science-fiction-reading human, not much more than a gigasecond old himself, mused about the future of publication online. He considered how the fresh, shiny, slow internet might become the ultimate leveller. He hoped that it would eventually become widespread on faster computers, better than flickering displays, and wider than plain-old-telephone-system data pipelines. He’d been using computers since 1974. They were tools — surely to be put to good use. And what better use than radical reading?

This bespectacled man also mused about the great speculative stories and ideas that never see publication, and the authors that write them — and added a dash of an awakening notion that resistance is not futile, that it’s refreshing and important to turn plots, ideas, milieus, and characters upside down. To make them Antipodean, if you like — and to keep it all free.

Well, it was something like that, and more.

A website was born from the tips of that man’s keyboard-pounding fingers, and now, thousands of stories and contributors later Issue 200 is alive. Yes, I’m strange, dear reader. But so are you, for without you there’s nothing but vacuum-less void.

Enough. Space with me now while we go virtual for real, goggle without wearing them, and discover a whole new definition of corporate body.
